Did you know that windows phone 7 can sync wirelessly

October 26
by victorantos 26. October 2010 23:28

To set up wireless sync

If you don't want to physically connect your phone to your computer every time you need to sync, you can set up your phone to automatically sync with your computer over your home Wi-Fi network.

  • 1

Connect your phone to your PC using the USB cable that came with your phone.

  • 2

In the Zune software, click Settings > Phone > Wireless Sync.

  • 3

Follow the on-screen instructions in the Zune software.

After you've completed the steps above, files will automatically sync to your phone wirelessly when the following conditions are met:

  • Your phone and PC are both connected to your home Wi-Fi network. Note that wireless sync is not supported on workplace Wi-Fi networks.
  • Your phone battery has at least a medium-level charge ( Battery icon at medium-level) and your phone is connected to an AC power adapter (that is, your phone must be connected to the wall charger and not connected to your computer).
  • You're not interacting with your phone. For example, you're not touching things on the screen, the backlight is off, and music and videos aren't playing (it's OK if a song or video is paused).

It might take up to 15 minutes for wireless sync to start, and there is no way to manually force it to occur. For more information about wireless sync, see Zune.net

Hundreds of controls coming to Silverlight

April 23
by victorantos 23. April 2008 09:08

Even though the vast majority of Scott Guthrie's ASP.NET Connections keynote yesterday was review for anyone following the .NET scene (which you are if you're reading this blog), he did manage to (intentionally or not) share a couple of interesting Silverlight news items.

First, while talking about Silverlight UI controls, Scott mentioned that there are thirty-five controls currently included in Silverlight 2. Thirty-five? Really? I suppose it depends on what you count as a "control," but by my best and most liberal count I don't see more than 30 controls in Silverlight 2 beta 1 (stay tuned for some interesting news about a new article I'm publishing on this very topic). Where are the other five controls Scott referenced? Is it possible he's alluding to some new controls that are ready to go in beta 2? I can't say for certain, but his next comment really makes this a moot point.

Continuing with his comments on UI controls, Scott said in a year's time (or so) there would be over 100 controls built-in to Silverlight. I know?! Over one-hundred? That's not only a lot of controls for a .NET platform, but it sounds like more controls than Microsoft has ever shipped for any of its previous application platforms. Again, the definition of "control" could be causing some confusion here, but the core message is the same: in about a year, Microsoft is going to more than triple the number of built-in controls in Silverlight.

So what? Well, this "news" should give you more comfort that Silverlight is getting aggressive investment from Microsoft and give you hope that anything you don't see in Silverlight today will probably be there in less than a year. It also means that when it comes to developing for Silverlight, Microsoft is going the extra-mile to make sure you have all the incentive you need to build your apps on the infant platform. I guess now it's time to wait and see what Microsoft delivers.

Microsoft Popfly

March 02
by victorantos 2. March 2008 10:26

I discovered today a new project from Microsoft. Its name is Popfly. What is Popfly - from wikipedia "website that allows user to create web pages, program snippets, and mashups using the Microsoft Silverlight rich internet applications runtime and the set of online tools provided.".

You don't need to know programming in order to create such web applications. You can view applications created by other users and you could share your popfly applications.

You could integrate popfly in visual studio if you want to create more complex apps using popfly explorer.

So it took me about 10 minutes to create a silverlight application online that searches on live.com for victorantos images and then displays them in a photoshow control.

Really cool.

Microsoft's piracy fight gains momentum in China

January 07
by victorantos 7. January 2008 23:59
In his first official visit to the United States in 2006, China President Hu Jintao arrived for dinner at Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates' house with a gift for the host.

Shortly before Hu's Seattle visit, the Chinese government had issued a decree requiring all personal computers manufactured in China to come with a licensed operating system before leaving the factory gates.

Now, nearly two years later, that gift keeps giving. The software company co-founded by Gates is seeing the benefits of more stringent intellectual property policies in China, with a decline in piracy rates and improved results at its mainstay Windows division.

China is by no means the worst offender.
