asp.net web developer on the way to conquer a little bit of the Internet

New real estate ads website

February 19
by Admin 19. February 2012 11:51

Recently I've launched a real estate website. The website is based on mojoportal open source project.

Technically http://realtoras.com - is like a blog. Its database schema is a modified version of the Blog module from the mojoportal to allow special attributes like:

  • Price
  • Available from
  • Total Area
  • Address
  • Images gallery
  • other details

Anyone interested to buy it, I did put realtoras.com on a auction sale here https://flippa.com/2702360-real-estate-ads

I want mention that the website is very easy to install, basically it's just a copy/paste. This is possible because the database engine is a SqlCe (compact ediction) file that can run on asp.net 4.0 hosting.

Perspective from Google - Eric Schmidt at European Zeitgeist 2011

May 18
by Admin 18. May 2011 16:11

Eric Schmidt emphasizes the importance of the internet when he poses the question, what would happen if we turned the internet off? The internet has become a force of democratization and understanding. Each minute there are 35 hours of content uploaded to YouTube, each day there are 400,000 Android devices activated and there are 160 million Chrome users worldwide. It is evident that the internet is the most significant collaborative effort of our time.

Schmidt: Android will bring DEMOCRACY to the WORLD

'These heroes are dead, because they lived 500 years ago'

The former Google CEO turned exec chairman and company ambassador also appeared to maybe rule out the firm becoming involved in the creation of facial recognition databases.

Schmidt was talking at the Google Big Tent event in London today following an onstage talk between Wael Ghonim, the Google employee caught up in the Egyptian revolution earlier this year, and Channel 4 presenter John Snow.

Schmidt said that "last year's Android smartphone is next year's feature phone", a development that puts increasing power to communicate in the hands of more and more people around the world.

"All this is happening because of Moore's law," said Schmidt, promoting the venerable Google exec from silicon visionary to harbinger of world freedom.

Responding to audience questions on apparent apathy about politics in the West despite the free flow of information, Schmidt suggested Westerners had become lazy, forgetting that people had died fighting for the liberties we enjoy.

In a classic Schmidtism, he added: "These people are heroes. They're also dead because they were alive 100, or 500 years ago."

Schmidt said any government that sought to restrict free communication between its citizens did so at its peril. While such attempt might succeed for a while, it would inevitably fail, as the internet did not offer government the same control as manipulation of mass broadcasting.

At the same time, he appear to conflate this freedom for citizens to disseminate data with a firm's ability to continue collect data in ways that privacy activists - and some governments - object to.

"What are you going to do, turn off the internet?" he said. He then rehashed well-worn Google arguments about the impact of Google and the internet in general on commerce.

However, he insisted that Google had learned its lessons the "hard way" about ensuring it put users', and governmental, concerns about privacy at the heart of its policy making process, repeating the phrase "with your permission". Of course, he'd prefer self-regulation by the industry, as politicians tend to trip up by making their rules over-broad.

Schmidt admitted he'd been burned over his references in previous debates about his references to the "creepy line".

But he appeared to set his own creepy line, saying as a computer scientist he was amazed how good facial recognition technology was. While Google used some facial recognition technology in its Picasa product, he said it was "unlikely" the firm would launch a generalised visual database, not least because of the legal uncertainties, particularly in Europe.

"For me the visual recognition stuff is concerning," he said.

But he added - "some company is going to cross that line." ®

When I start to build a new website I have to search everytime for a suitable css template.  Actually I have gathered a lot of templates on my computer over time, but it's difficult for me to preview the templates and choose one.

So I came with a solution. It's a local website that helps me to browse my downloaded templates. See the screencast below

Did you know that windows phone 7 can sync wirelessly

October 26
by victorantos 26. October 2010 23:28

To set up wireless sync

If you don't want to physically connect your phone to your computer every time you need to sync, you can set up your phone to automatically sync with your computer over your home Wi-Fi network.

  • 1

Connect your phone to your PC using the USB cable that came with your phone.

  • 2

In the Zune software, click Settings > Phone > Wireless Sync.

  • 3

Follow the on-screen instructions in the Zune software.

After you've completed the steps above, files will automatically sync to your phone wirelessly when the following conditions are met:

  • Your phone and PC are both connected to your home Wi-Fi network. Note that wireless sync is not supported on workplace Wi-Fi networks.
  • Your phone battery has at least a medium-level charge ( Battery icon at medium-level) and your phone is connected to an AC power adapter (that is, your phone must be connected to the wall charger and not connected to your computer).
  • You're not interacting with your phone. For example, you're not touching things on the screen, the backlight is off, and music and videos aren't playing (it's OK if a song or video is paused).

It might take up to 15 minutes for wireless sync to start, and there is no way to manually force it to occur. For more information about wireless sync, see Zune.net

My notes about internet marketing

January 10
by victorantos 10. January 2009 14:51

Just found this post on some forum:

the truth is SEO will not work for your blog if it is new. The way to go is social media. My blog is only 3 months old but alexa is nearing top 100k. Blog income just reached $600 a month.
All these thanks to stumble upon, Digg and reddit.

Add many friends in these networks.
Be active.
Contribute to their communities.
Submit your posts and make sure not to spam.
Do not become an affiliate whore.

The most important thing is always support others. Contribute with quality posts. If you find a good post written by someone else , do not hesitate and add it to the network, It will only do good for you.

If you follow this formula you cant get wrong. If you are really good you will get 200-300 visitors in hours. Not in a day.

I've posted here to have it in my archive. I think it's worth it!
